Kelly Kayne, Founder and Program Manager

Founder and Volunteer Manager
The Westsider Newspaper

I am on a mission to make the world a better place. And I know something magical happens when people, putting purpose above profit, work together for the collective good.

As a marketing and communications professional, and a passionate advocate for social enterprise start-ups, I founded The Westsider in 2014 as a not-for-profit community-oriented newspaper. Our publication connects with and supports volunteer writers wanting to address the issues and topics that matter to them and their community. After nearly ten years, and now with the assistance of Local Impact, the Westsider has embedded itself as a progressive and trusted voice across Melbourne’s western region.

Continuing my association with the Westsider as its volunteer manager, I oversee the maintenance of its high production values, its social media postings, grant application writing and staff reviews. To this work I bring almost two decades of experience across industries including Solar Tech, Ethical Food, FinTech and Real Estate Tech, whilst also holding Board positions at the Choir of Hard Knocks and Upbeat Arts.

I want to share my love for learning, for volunteering in the local community, for mixing business smarts with heart and soul. That way, together, we will continue to make the positive, lasting change we all seek.
