Community Bike Hub officially certified as social enterprise with Social Trader

Local Impact is thrilled to announce that the Community Bike Hub is now officially a certified social enterprise with Social Trader!

The Community Bike Hub was originally conceived as a Rotary project, before evolving into a multifaceted organisation aimed at increasing equitable access to the joys and independence of bike riding in Melbourne’s western suburbs. Its development has been driven by Local Impact and other community partnerships – the new certification will see it become more enmeshed in the for-purpose ecosystem in Victoria.

Social Trader supports social procurement and partnerships between for-purpose organisations nationwide and is the only certification for social enterprises in Australia.

Social Trader defines social enterprises as meeting three criteria:

  1. Have a defined primary social, cultural or environmental purpose consistent with a public or community benefit, and
  2. Derive a substantial portion of their income from trade, and
  3. Invest efforts and resources into their purpose such that public/community benefit outweighs private benefit.

The Community Bike Hub’s purpose is to service the community and environment through decreasing waste and making cycling more accessible through bike recycling and donation programs. Forming new connections between social enterprises will ensure that the Community Bike Hub remains a sustainable resource for the community.

“We are excited to see how our certification with Social Trader can both promote our purpose and services, while contributing to future collaborations in both the western suburbs and across Victoria.” – Chair of Community Bike Hub, Andy Moutray-Read
